You see..its not that we were apprehensive about getting Maddie her first haircut...we knew she would do great...its just that we felt justified to put the event off since we endured two years of waitng for any sort of substantial growth to bless her little head. Jon would take her out in public and patrons would comment..."oh..how old is your son???" Bless the little old ladies and men...but geez...they all must be colorblind caue the kid is dressed head to toe in pink, wearing sparkly shoes and sporting four necklasses.
Siince these times there have been a few triggers to get us to breakdown and get the quaff cut.
- The out of control affro in the back to which we lovingly refer to as "business in the front, party in the back"
- Hugs, while nice...would institute uncontrollable nose itching and sneezing on the part of said parents since the afformentioned quaff would just slightly tickle and rub agains out face.
- Maddie's permanent mobile snack station, a great combination of dried yogurt, applesauce, stew, last nights banana snack or peanut butter crusted on the tips of her hair as it brushed down in front of her face.
So here is how the conversation goes....
Melissa...."Maddie needs a haircut"
Jon..."I'll cut it...it can't be that hard..."
Melisa..."Absolutely not...she's a lady...she needs to go to a stylist..."
Well, we had a coupon..so that stylist was Cost Cutters.....we built this thing up big time...Jon was a little nervous..since he has a hard time with pony tails...Maddie won't let him do it without Mama present...it all ends up crazy looking. Jon actually considered using the vacuum cleaner to do the perfect pony tail...if you don't know..search for it on YouTube. Anyway, after a morning of errands we marched into the "salon." Maddie was a rockstar...she jumped right up on the booster seat and smiled into the mirror. Now I don't know about you, but getting a haircut for myself is like quiet time...its is a time to relax and take a step back from the day...I don't usually converse much...much to the dismay of the person cutting my hair. You would have seriously not even recognized that Maddie was our kid...she jumped up there and it was like no topic was untouchable. She talked about our errands taht morning, she said she was excited to look beautiful and even mentioned that her papa sometimes puts her hair in pony tails...so she should have enought to still be able to put it in a pony tail. When asked if she wanted bangs..she said...no...she wanted a trim and it shortened up...hilarious...so she ended up with a cute little bob and a sucker for being a good girl. That kid waltzed out of there like she owned the place, and was the crowned princess of the salon in front of her audience of two old ladies..a dude waiting..and the two female stylists. Just like a princess..while her entourage settled the bill.....:0)
