It was one of our planned, family filled fun moments. It had been a long time since all of us have been out to a movie. In fact, the last time Madeline had gone to a movie was when she was an infant and Jon and her had gone to see Rio...she slept halfway through ..probably because her eyes were so sleepy from being so big the first half of the movie. Anyway, it just so happened that on New Year's Eve the whole family was home together!!! No work..who-da thunk!!! We made it a family day, and as always to get Maddie pumped up..we talked up this movie. Jon really didn't know much about it, but all we knew was that it was about princesses...and we also know that princesses are near and dear to Maddie's heart..in fact..she's dressed as one as I speak.......so once we said the word..she was all in!! Of course we picked the perfect day...it turned out to be a major coupon day so it was a reasonable cost as well. We just kind of sat back and enjoyed the show...the movie and the Maddie show as we call it. Melissa and Maddie found a seat while Jon got snacks...he came back to a dark theatre with previews playing and a three and a half year old on the edge of her seat....excitement-wise..and pretty much literally..in fact..she stayed that way the whole duration of the show..at one point we mentioned she could lean back...but you know you forget as a kid how those seats turn you into a folded sandwich...or a lawn chair....you know what I'm talking about. The movie itself was awesome...from the perspective of a kid and a parent. Wholesome Disney with good music and great comedy. In fact Maddie was laughing as well. The highlight for us was looking over and seeing Maddie swinging her legs happily during the musical parts of the movie...that big ole grin and smile could have lit up that room. Oh..and she has no problem with multitasking...and by that I mean eating popcorn and watching the picture....all three of us put a pretty big dent in the snacks.....
The movie all in all was a great hit..and when we asked Maddie what her favorite part was..she said..."all the princesses" and when the one became a statue.....which in retrospect was a pretty sad part of the movie..followed by the finally 30seconds later of when she was unfrozen...so I'm sure that was what she was talking about:) As a bonus that night...since it was New Years Eve we enjoyed a family "picnic" on the floor with a HUGE spread of Hor d'oerves..and rounded out the night with a grand edition of ..you guessed it....Cinderella!!!:) Oh..and Jon and Melissa had two rousing games of Ticket to Ride...(with expanded European Card edition)..to finish out 2013. A great year!
