The transition in the first week was full of its great moments as well as challenges to be expected. For sure there was no lack of love between Maddie and Morgen, in fact Maddie wanted so much to help us with the every day tasks of taking care of her new sister. She has been truly energetic and excited to welcome her to the family. Maddie has been great at getting diapers ready, butt paste and wipes, as well as always wanting to bring out Morgen's books and read to her. Maddie even helped Morgen get her first couple check marks in the Sun Prairie Library reading program. Maddie tells us that she and Morgen are going to go together to the library to collect the prizes:) They are remarkable together. Our biggest challenge right now is that Maddie is so interested in giving Morgen hugs, kisses and attention that sometimes we need to emphasize gentleness and slowing down vs eneloping her in hugs:) And of course there have been some challenges of attention as expected given the addition of the newest family member. The family is doing well though, emphasizing individual time with Mama and Papa as well as major family time with all four of us focused around dinner, reading and of course...the World Cup....

The Relationship
We are very happy to report that Maddie is absolutely thrilled and excited to be a big sister. It truly has been a blessing to see her initial reactions first when she found out she was going to be a big sister...continuing to the conversations as we got closer to the event, and finally when she got to hold little Morgen in her arms for the first time. It was remarkable to see her grin from ear to hear as she held her gently. She truly is a happy big sister.
