Brace Yourself

Lets face it, we're not professional writers. In fact, I will do my best to keep the spelling errors to a minimum. The following are random thoughts as we reflect on life and our beautiful family. Hope family and friends enjoy!

Does it Count????, Man Voice & Little Stinker

So I really have to get on here more often, cause this could be a longer post....Ok, for all you parents out there...the question of the day...when do you officially count a tooth coming in, do you have to actually see the tooth, or can you just feel it? Well you probably have guessed our major accomplishment this last two weeks. Maddie has two teeth coming in! They are the bottom ones, and should break the skin any day now. Jon broke out the steak and potatoes, but Melissa insisted on another night of milk......and Maddie didn't argue.

Speaking of food, Maddie has an expanded diet...wait for it...wait for it....RICE CEREAL! Yup..we officially started a new nightly ritual...which needless to say is completely hilarious and enjoyable. The first three nights were as follows:

Night One - We presented the spoonful of rice cereal to Maddie which she opened her mouth for...promptly stuck the spoon in, she took a taste...made this scrunching up constipated face, and CLAMPED her mouth shut. And there was night one.

Night Two - Things went better...we presented the spoon, and let her slurp it off the spoon, she took 3-4 baby spoonfuls and smiled...and Jon said..."Yeah, this is going really well!" Then she smiled and it all came out. Little Stinker kept it in her mouth, sloshed it around like mouthwash and spit it out. I firmly believe that if we hadn't made her smile we would have never known and would have turned our backs and she would have spit it out. I think we need to be aware in the future of finding random vegetables under the table after dinner.

Night Three - This e-mail from Melissa says it all: "In addition to pooping through our pants and the exersaucer, we peed out of the diaper and over the towel minutes before our bath time. So don't use the hooded duck towel. Also did you know that you CAN get a spoonful of rice cereal AND your foot in your mouth? Piece of cake! We were all smiles for rice cereal today, although I am not sure how much we swallowed." Needless to say we love her very much, thank God for her, are blessed and excited every minute we interact with her...oh..and there is interaction!!!

Yeah..speaking of interaction...this past night I came home from working...(in the am) and Maddie was sleeping...we let her sleep since she has been up more at night with the tooth thingy, but I went in there to wake her up to get her ready for daycare...I rubbed her back..cause she is half Meyer I know the frustration when you have to wake up fast...so I was slow going...she stirred and then put her head to the other side and put her thumb in her mouth. I said to Melissa "this is not going well..." We both went in..and wouldn't you know...little stinker was sucking her thumb and smiling...ever so slyly.....what a little FAKER!!! She is so funny and happy in the morning!

Well, other than that...it has been a fun and eventful last two weeks...some activities included:
9/3 - our second trip to the ZOO! This time we saw lots more and stayed awake the whole time. We loved being carried around in the baby Bjorn!
9/4 - we attended our first Wedding! Uncle Bill married Margie in Beaver Dam! Although the bride and groom looked awesome, Maddie stole the show with her pink hippo dress! It allowed us a great time to catch up with some of the Meyer family we haven't seen in a while. Maddie met a lot of new people! She slept on the way home. Maddie was also crucial in our negotiations with Zimbrick Honda on our CRV. I know at one point the salesperson was putty in my hands as Maddie gave him that "I may have to poop" look.
9/6 - We loved hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa Meyer as well as Uncle Lyle and Aunt Nancy when they came to visit for the wedding! We grilled out and had corn. Maddie had milk and went to bed early.
9/8 - Our little girl is a future supervisor. She was instrumental in supervising Daddy purchasing and hauling in our new wood floor. (Installation coming in the next month..stay tuned). Maddie offered to help, and she did...she carried the purchase order in her car seat and counted the 35 fifty pound boxes as Daddy unloaded them off the truck and into the house. Then she slept.
9/10 - Aunt Pat and Uncle Chuck came to visit as they were in town for the Badger game. Maddie got the cutest little badger onesies as well as a first Wisconsin Badger board book...we read the book..mouthed it, and then slept.
9/11 - This was a big day! Maddie had her first long car ride up to Antigo, WI for our Godson Scott's second birthday. We had a ton of fun with all the kids. Maddie was a rock star and was very sociable. Happy Birthday to Scott!
9/12 - All three of us rocked our Packer gear for the Pack's win over the Eagles! Thanks to Ella, Charles and Lindsey Cooper for stopping by and helping celebrate!

Both Melissa and I thank God for our great family and each other...and continually celebrate each and every day!!!

P.S. Oh yeah!! I forgot the "Man Voice" reference.....this past week Melissa had the flu...poor Mommy; Daddy and Maddie did our best to help her get better...Maddie even went out and got her some orange juice..but I think the smiles made Mommy better:) Well one day Maddie woke up with this hoarse cry.....and then when she would "talk" she would sound like a man.....it wasn't funny until we took her in and found out she didn't have an ear infection or anything...healthy as a lark....then she just sounded weird for two days...but then was good to go...we lovingly coined her as "being a Bass." Not the fish..the voice.....
