You know those episodes of your favorite TV show..you know the ones I am talking about...you sit down and are anticipating a new episode and instead get a recap episode...a bunch of old clips strung together to make a "new" show for the week...well...it's time for a recap here..but I can ASSURE all of our loyal followers that this will not be boring..because unlike your favorite sitcom..all the following content is new and has been previously unreleased...and so follows...THE MEYER FAMILY Recap of our GREAT SUMMER! Its kind of like a sitcom...there definitely is a lot of laughter and comic relief in our home..:)
Lets bring it back a notch...hang with me here...its going to be a stumblin', bumblin', ramblin' good time!
I will start out by saying that our family is extremely blessed. We look at our little girl and see personality traits from both parents and there isn't a day that goes by that she doesn't make us smile. God has been good to our family!
Melissa and I both LOVE the summer, it is a time to get out of the house, enjoy the weather and be a family. This summer was significantly special because it is Madeline's first true summer meaning she is 100% in tune with the environment around her as she learns and grows. We have come to notice that every day she takes joy in learning something new, and Melissa and I have commented to each other that she is growing up quickly into a "big girl." I commented earlier when she was just about a year old that she hasn't started walking yet...yeah..now I can't catch her!!! So here is a brief (yeah right) recap of our tremendous summer. And our readers may notice that some of these aren't really events..and I sometimes go on a tangent (really?) and talk about Madeline mannerisms....of which she has many.
Now..onto bullet form presentation of some highlights of our summer....
- We have been making frequent visits to Story time at the Sun Prairie Public Library. We actually attended on a whim and the first session Madeline was as nosy as ever...she stood up, and looked around at all the other kids. I will say that she has really opened up as at the last session she showed off her new skill of twirling and stomping her feet. She smiles and did it with the other kids. And of course it is exciting to pick up a new picture to color at the end of the twenty minute sing, dance and story party.
- The family got to visit Sun Prairie Police night at the school across the street. Madeline enjoyed pushing the wagon, seeing the horse, petting it, and of course looking at the UW Hospital flight-for-life helicopter. Papa got a video of it taking off!!
- Melissa and Madeline paid a visit to the Schweinert family reunion where much fun was to be had with Oma, Opa and the extended family. There was much swimming involved which always results in smiles and laughs. There was even kayaking involved. Madeline supervised that one.
- In August was the annual Sun Prairie corn fest. Oma and Opa Schweinert came to visit with Mama, Papa and Madeline. If anyone has not heard of this festival or not been to it, it is a must see. If you like corn you will be amazed. And for those bargain hunters out there, you can get a year and a half supply of corn on the cob for about 12$. And if you need any tips on how to prepare/save it, Melissa is the expert. We love corn. Highlight for Mama and Papa...corn on the cob with olive oil on the grill. Highlight for Maddie....the root beer float.
- This summer saw many visits to the Sun Prairie public pool by the family. Maddie loves to splash around and the zero entry pool is exactly what suits her the best. Although fear is definitely not a factor as she goes up to her waist, not to mention likes to stand under the waterfall. She wanted to go down the water slide..(big one) but Papa said no and decided to try it out himself.
- As always the highlights of summer and nice weather is visiting with close family, whether we travel to or we have visitors it is always relaxing and nice to hang out with those closest to you. We saw many visits from Oma and Opa Lehner, Oma and Opa Schweinert and Grandma and Grandpa for birthdays and just to say hi! All were great times. And Papa loves cooking..and we love eating also! Maddie just likes to show off how talented she is...and we love it!
- Maddie also got to meet Brooklyn, her new second cousin which was a great treat. She is a cute kid. Congratulations to Dan and Jen Douglass!!!
Whew...what a recap...as you can see the summer went quickly, but each day was a unique adventure with laughs along the way. And we even had some time to do some outside chores...well....not really...weeding may have taken a little bit of a backseat...who? Papa? :)
