Its that time again...the excitement is building.....the time of year as we approach the Summer Olympic games. Melissa and I like the Olympics in general, we watch the winter games and summer games religiously, but the summer games really get us excited. Of course the event of choice in the house is swimming (Melissa gets really excited:) and for good reason. Jon gets into the swimming also...and throughout the years is learning more and more about it..timing...names of athletes, events, etc. There is definitely a little competitiveness in both of our blood...and as we are finding out in Maddie's also.
Well...to make a long story short....this week is the start of the US swimming Olympic trials out of Omaha. Maddie has even noticed something different..an electricity in the living room as the television is mysteriously on at an "odd" hour........both of us have built it up as watching the Olympics and Maddie has perched herself next to us on the sofa and paid attention with us. She even shouted out after the swimmers left the block "Pick the Winner!!!" and quickly jumped down and picked the lane she predicted to win...of course she always picked lane seven which isn't likely..but we enjoy her enthusiasm.....:) And as a true two year old, she can make it only a couple races..then gets sidetracked by jumping around singing "The Bare Necessities" no joke here....:) As a family we are looking to having "Olympic" nights this coming summer.....oh..and we may throw in some Jungle Book just for good measure...
Oh...and the competitive nature of Melissa and I really has been coming out lately this week as we have been enjoying nightly "Ticket to Ride-Europe" board games...we are pretty even in our winnings..but one time Jon suddenly noticed Melissa changed her tactic to the complete offensive (seek and destroy) tactic, vs the defensive (complete and win) strategy...those who have played the game will understand. Upon Jon noticing the tactic change...he asked..."what's with that?" to which she replied..jumping out of her chair..."I love the Olympics..." its so competitive..and it just keeps coming out.!!! yeah..Jon lost that game:)
