State Park Challenge #1: Rib Mountain State Park (04.22.2017)
This is the state park that started it all…our State Park Challenge! On our way through the Wausau area, on our way to celebrate our Godson’s first communion in Antigo, we spent the day in Wausau. Inspired, we decided to make a brief visit (40 minutes) to Rib Mountain State Park – with the highest point in Wisconsin. Our visit was brief, but impactful. We climbed the tower (and I almost had a nervous breakdown at the height of the tower with Morgen itching to adventure around). We saw …SNOW… on the hillside, left over from the ski-season. We climbed over a few rocks to take in the view. Unfortunately we also saw someone get hurt. A woman hit her head on the rocks she was climbing…and the girls still mention that event; a reminder of the responsibility to take care of yourself and respect your limitations AND nature.
Now the girls might have thought the short hiking we did up the hillside were too much – which means we need to up the ante in preparation for our August trip to Portland and the sightseeing we have planned there. Therefore, the challenge is on…!
