Growing up...inevitably we all do it.....and certain milestones are noted. I've tried to note them in past entries and came accross a couple over these past weeks/month. We already talked about the potty...ahhh. yes..the potty...most notably the most challenging milestone to achieve with a wave of euphoria when the goal is met for the first time...really haven't achieved that wave yet..so we instituted some other "easier" milestones.
The Dawn of the "Big Girl Bed"
Melissa and I had always commented to each other...ahhh man...what happens when she is able to get out of her crib by herself??? She will most certainly act on her instinct and love for cuddling..and what better place than our bed...we envisioned waking up to a little face staring at us at all hours of the night with a plea..."sleep with mama..." But the time had to come...Maddie is after all an independent little girl. We made an event out of it......Maddie commented and helped Papa take down the side rail, put it away and watched as he got pillows and set them on the floor. She also had input on what sheets and order her stuffed animals were going to be in. So the transition was going well...at least in the de-construction phase. Well the night of 5/27/12 was Maddie's first night in her big girl bed, and she was a rock star. She climbed in herself after reading books and of course executed her nightly routine of being tucked in. And then we left the door cracked and SHE STAYED PUT! We were both very excited and to this day talk about how good she has been with her new freedom. Of course we get the occasional wandering into the hallway when she knows we are still up, but we can take that...we also have a common goal between us of wearing her out during the day with activities...this makes sleeping in a big girl bed easier!
The Thump
It was bound to happen...the first fall out of bed...6/2/12 at 4:30 am. And of course all our concerned and tedious parental work of setting up pillows..she managed to miss them all. Of course it is really a short fall..so more of a shock and scare..but a couple of hugs...kisses..and a granted request of "sleep in mama's bed" later...we are golden:)
The Retirement of the High Chair
This was also a big event. Mostly for Mama and Papa..since it cleared up more room in the kitchen for Maddie's really nice wood table. And she was really ready, Maddie likes to sit at the table and drink out of a big girl (normal) cup, and eat her dinner with us as a family. So no need for the high chair anymore. Maddie even helped us spray it down with the garden hose and scrape the mashed peas off of it....(no age determined)..scary to think Melissa and I couldn't pinpoint when we last had peas....hmmmm.
Well those are the transitions in the Meyer household. All in all, given the potential routine interruption of some of them, Maddie worked through them like a champ..she is growing up...no onto the next great universal challenge...the potty....
