We kicked off the New Year with frigid temperatures, but FINALLY managed to get out of the house this past weekend. This led to our first State Park Challenge visit of 2018!
Our family sported new footwear as we enjoyed a sunny afternoon walk at Rocky Arbor State Park: in snowshoes!!
The park itself is small and very focused on summer camping. The nature trail is just 1 mile, which made it the perfect setting for our first snowshoe trek. The trail is located between sandstone bluffs and among the pine trees; convenient because the bluffs blocked any wind. The trail loop is marked on either end by a wooden staircase; challenging to navigate in snowshoes, but we have skills...
Madeline and Morgen were troopers; even though Morgen decided to ditch the snowshoes after 10 minutes, she completed the walk on her own. And of course, Madeline led the way! Afterward we enjoyed a hot chocolate treat in town and discussed the potential for our next trek.
We are looking for to many 2018 park visits!
