Brace Yourself

Lets face it, we're not professional writers. In fact, I will do my best to keep the spelling errors to a minimum. The following are random thoughts as we reflect on life and our beautiful family. Hope family and friends enjoy!

State Park Challenge #11: Big Foot Beach State Park (02.3.18)

Well, the Meyer family did justice to the "challenge" aspect of our State Park Challenge with our visit to Big Foot Beach State Park in Lake Geneva.  The scene was to be picturesque; a quiet evening of snowshoeing on a short, lantern lit trail.  There is not a lot of mileage for hiking in this park and so we thought this plan, the 2018 Candlelight Hike, was the way to make our visit special.

Instead of serenity...we marched onto the trail and were chased through it by a snowstorm.  Oh yes.  Instead of snowshoes we hiked down the path while the wind blow over the lanterns. (um, fire risk...)  Madeline was upset as Jon stomped out a few burning lantern bags that had tipped over, and Morgen sat sobbing at the post-hike refreshments picnic table because the snow was in her face.  Ha! On the upside, both girls enjoyed some hot chocolate, and Madeline roasted two marshmallows from the s'more kit. (AS FAST AS SHE COULD GET THEM DONE!)

Then we were off - for a treacherous ride home in the dark, on country roads, through the storm. Jon managed the drive like the trooper he is.

This one was both beautiful and brutal. It was an adventure.
