Brace Yourself

Lets face it, we're not professional writers. In fact, I will do my best to keep the spelling errors to a minimum. The following are random thoughts as we reflect on life and our beautiful family. Hope family and friends enjoy!

State Park Challenge #19: Sauk Prairie State Recreation Area - aka Badger Lands (07.05.18)

Badger Lands is the former site of the largest ammunition manufacturing plant in the world.  During WWII, there were 12,000 people employed here. During the Vietnam and Korean Wars, 5,000.  Since being decommissioned, the state begun to transform the land back to its native prairie land. The buildings have been removed. The trails are largely unmarked as the site is currently still being developed. Therefore we drove the 'public trail' and were surprised at the size of the site.  We also stopped at the volunteer run museum, where the girls were the 'first' kids to be given paper and crayons color pictures while the grown-ups studied the exhibits. (The volunteer told us this!)

We rounded out this State Park Challenge excursion with our first Merrimac ferry ride and ice cream stop. (What took us so long?)  Then we cooled off in the pool for a short swim at the DeForest KOA with the Handlos cousins.
