Spring break 2021 for the Meyer Family meant a long weekend in the North Woods. With COVID still a concern (we have not gotten vaccines in our household as of yet) we decided to generally avoid people and focus on some of the northern state parks in our Challenge. Our first stop was the Brule-St. Croix Portage Trail which is in the Brule River State Forest unit and also a section of the North Country National Scenic Trail. We clocked in about 4.1 miles out and back, and we learned that the section is one of the oldest trails as it was first cut by Native Americans, and also became important as part of the early fur trade established by the French. (History lesson!) We were treated to gulps of water from an artisan spring at the trail head after, and m&ms...! It was actually a pretty great way to kick off our trip and break up our long drive to Bayfield, WI...
