We finally made it to Madeline Island! And how appropriately, to do so, in the week leading up to our lady Madeline's birthday! Unfortunately (and to add drama), there were only 2 trips to/from Madeline Island on the ferry due to the volume of ice still on Lake Superior. This pumped up our adreneline a bit as we arrived and saw 13 vehicles lined up for the early trip back to Bayfield. As a result, we did a fast-forward state park visit, made a quick hot chocolate, and rock hunted at the beach, and spent as much time in line for the ferry BACK to Bayfield as in the park. The realization of the possibility of car camping (if we missed that boat back) was an interesting expression on the faces of our entire family. It sure gave us a great story! We hope to visit again sometime to explore the town, LaPointe. On the upside, we spent the afternoon visiting the National Lakeshore at Meyers Beach, which was actually awesome.
