A long weekend, (meaning no school on Friday), gave our family an opportunity for our family to seek out our Challenge in Northeastern Wisconsin. So we set out to visit the Four Seasons Resort, in Pembine, WI. Our first state challenge visit was at Menominee River State Recreation Area. Remote would have been an understatement - but wait until I describe our 3rd spot of the weekend! This area is best known for its river shoreline (as titled), but as we are not paddlers or a fish'er family, we looked for the hiking rails near Pemene Falls. Unfortunately, we drove the WI enterance to be stopped in our tracks (literally!) as the "logging road" was unplowed and not a great choice for our Honda. We instead drove to the Michigan trail, and walked 1/2 mile down to the falls; the falls were iced over! It was cold, and we had some frustration to start out our day. But we kept going to....
